Matt Whelan

Partner and Chief Financial Officer

Matt Whelan is a Partner and the Chief Financial Officer at Patient Square Capital. He has over 30 years of financial and operational management experience, including 20 years of private equity Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) experience and eight years of Chief Compliance Officer (“CCO”) experience.

Prior to Patient Square, Mr. Whelan served as Managing Director and CFO of Gryphon Investors, a San Francisco based private equity firm. Prior to Gryphon Investors, he served as Managing Director of Finance & Operations, CFO, and CCO of Brentwood Associates, a Los Angeles based private equity firm. His private equity experience includes all non-investment areas of firm and financial management, as well as transaction structuring.

Prior to Brentwood Associates, Matt served as CFO and Chief Operating Officer for venture and angel backed companies in the technology and internet sectors. In partnership with the just retired Special Agent in charge of the FBI’s Orange County, California field office, he co-led an investigative and consulting firm, where he focused on litigation support relating to financial fraud. Matt began his career with Price Waterhouse and is a Certified Public Accountant (CA-Inactive).

Mr. Whelan holds a B.S. in Business Administration cum laude from the University of Southern California.
